In my geographical area, the only buffets are at Indian weddings. And personally, I usually have the wait staff handle it. Itās much classier than having the DJ interrupt conversations every so often to announce numbers or names of tables.
I enjoy your newsletter but completely disagree with turning dinner into a game show. Most wedding guests donāt want to be bothered during dinner. They are either chatting with friends or family they havenāt seen in a while or they are making new friends.
Your suggestion about the personal invite is the only idea that makes a little sense. Iāve only got 40 years and nearly 2000 events in the business so maybe Iām wrong.
Keep up the good work⦠itās spot on most weeks!
I just saw a FB Reel that released people for the buffet in the order that the RSVPs were received. That's cool, but it could also put guests in an awkward position if you're close to last.
I agree, I have called guests for the buffet many times over the years, but that responsibility falls fully on the caterer.
Thanks for this site, your lists are awesome š
I think it depends on the situation, but you have to do what works for you and your guests to keep everything flowing.

This should be a short article:
Itās the catererās job to manage the queue for THEIR buffet. Period.

FB Feedback:
You get released from prison whereas you are invited to dinner.
A little different way of approaching things....
If I am the person controlling the flow, I personally go up to each table and invite them to enjoy the great food that has been prepared for them.
-- or some similar invitation... not always the same for each table.
I get face time with guests
I learn about them a little more
I know can make the rest of the evening more personal
