2023 is over. Let’s start with a few music facts from the past year.
Fun Facts:
As of May 2023, Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower" is the highest-certified song in RIAA history with 18-times platinum status in the United States. It has been streamed over 2.4 billion times.
In September 2023, Rema’s “Calm Down” becomes the first African led artist to surpass Spotify’s 1 billion streams.
The #1 most streamed song on Spotify in 2023 was “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus with 1.67 billion streams. #2 is “Seven” Jung Kook, Latto at 1.25 billion. (per chart data)
Taylor Swift becomes the top soloist with the most weeks at #1 in the US on the Billboard 200 album chart. She surpassed Elvis Presley at 68 weeks. (per chart data)
I remember a time when I would go to dance clubs as a college kid to find out all of the great dance tunes that were not available on the radio. They made me want to dance and DJ more.
Times have changed since as we are in a time when every song is available within a few clicks. One thing that has not changed is a good dance song will get people to dance.
I would like to challenge music entertainers to play music that they know is awesome to dance to but not well known (yet). Challenge yourself to play songs so that dancers come up to you and ask “What song is this? It is awesome!”.
Of course, don’t play them all in a row. Instead, take the occasional chance for songs that just make people want to dance.
Be the source in your area of (new) unbelievable dance and party music!
Of course, not every song is right for every wedding (ie. location and a couple’s music tastes). I tend to lean towards dance music and popular hits. Some tracks were intentionally left off like SkeeYee songs. If you have a song that should be on my list, please share it below in the comments.
