1990s R&B music was like no other with romantic slow jams to the party starters. Some of the music crosses over to Pop and Hip Hop but I have lists for those too. See a few popular songs then and trending now for wedding playlists. Have any suggestions? Reply to this email or share in the comments.

Table of Contents:

  • Party Time

  • Dinner/Cocktails

  • Love Songs

  • (Spotify Playlist) - 45 songs!

One condition to this list. Every song must have been released in the 1990s. Nothing from the 1980s and 2000s!

If you are interested, I created a list of 90s Hip Hop, 90s Country, 90s Rock, and 90s Pop.

Still to come - 90s Dance… then, the 2000s!

Keep in mind that I want to keep this list under 50 songs. So, many classics are left off to have a few hidden gems. (Mariah Carey was on the pop list.)

Party Time

Feels Good - Tony! Toni! Toné!

1990 - It reached #1 on the R&B charts and became their first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #9. Did you know the song features a rap verse by Mopreme Shakur, the older brother of Tupac Shakur?

I’m Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston

1990 - It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US. It also tied Houston with Madonna for the most number-one hits by a female artist at the time. The track was her eighth number-one single overall. Another party hit from the 90s was her hit “I’m Every Woman”.

Jumpin’, Jumpin’ - Destiny's Child

1999 - “Jumpin', Jumpin'“ reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US. Also check out a popular remix featuring Lil Bow Wow, Da Brat, and Jermaine Dupri. The song enjoyed a resurgence in popularity when it was featured in a commercial for a sports drink called SL Slam.
